TRAINING FOR D-DAY

The rugged terrain above Keswick was ideal for training and the little known Driving and Maintenance School was based near here at Portinscale. In this rarely seen film we see jeeps, Bren gun carriers and motorbikes in the run upto D-Day. Cumbria Film Archive has been given access to the colour and black and white film but it’s not known who filmed the footage. It could have been a training film but it doesn’t appear to be top secret work as members of the public were allowed to watch the filming. However once again it gives us another unique glimpse into what the war years were like in the county.
