Life at some of Cumbria’s rural stations features in the first section of this film in our archive. The life of the stationmaster was certainly multi tasking and the job of the signal box staff was lonely but vital. We’re also aboard the Lakeside-Haverthwaite railway in the southern lake district. Once it was vital to local industry but it now survives successfully as one of the county’s preserved lines to keep alive Cumbria’s railway past.
