In 1974 Westmorland was wiped from the map and swallowed up by the newly created Cumbria. But the ‘lost county’ did not die. It lived in the hearts of its people. This film - part of our series showing the history of Cumbria on DVD - is a unique look back to the old days. It is a journey into the past where you will discover what life was like two hundred years ago, right up to the present day. Ancient industries died and others took their place. People lived in poverty side by side with others who had great riches. Better wages brought more and more tourists and the county changed forever. From packhorses and stagecoaches to the coming of the railways the atmosphere of life in this great county is brought to life once again.
