PRISONERS OF WAR

Cumbria’s isolation in the north west of England made it an ideal location for prisoner of war camps and there were many dotted around the area. Some of the remains of these camps can still be seen but also a fascinating visual record has survived. Cumbria Film Archive was also able to trace two of the German prisoners of war who decided to settle in the county after the war and spend the rest of their lives in Carlisle. They are both interviewed about their experiences in this film.
